Top 10 things you can get at costco

By Mohini Johri

From the outside, Costco may look like any other very large store. However, the interior holds treasures one can only imagine. With no aisle markers or signs to tell customers where things are, it is almost impossible to prevent yourself from wandering the inside of Costco without curiosity and intrigue. I consider myself Costco’s biggest fan. During break, My mom and I make weekly trips regardless of whether or not we actually need anything and, yet, something inside always results in us lining up at the register. The day my parents added me to their membership and I received my very own Costco card was the best day of my life. I find myself wandering the Durham Costco from time to time these days. During my most recent trip, it occurred to me that many individuals are unaware of the wonders of Costco; it would be wrong of me to withhold such vital information. Thus, here you are: a hand-picked list of the best items you can get at Costco.

  1. Fur Coats and Parkas

If you’ve seen me around campus after mid-September, it has 100% been while wearing a fur coat from Costco. These fur coats are a blessing and a curse. These coats are like wearing a cloud; they are possibly the most comfortable articles of clothing to ever grace the face of the planet, not to mention that they look good with quite literally everything. However, once you have one, you just can’t stop. Do I have this coat in four different colors? Yes. 11/10 would recommend the investment. In the same coat vein, for your slightly colder weather needs, Costco has beautifully crafted parkas. There are options for both the fur hood lover and those who prefer their parkas without the fur. They are also incredibly durable. My entire family purchased these parkas years ago and they have yet to falter in quality or effectiveness. Do I also own these in four different colors? Absolutely yes. Doesn’t get better than this.

2. Decorated Cakes

The Costco bakery is a wondrous place. The bakers and decorators who bless Costco with their abilities create masterpieces of baked goods with a number of templates to choose from for any possible occasion. Additionally, sometimes they take requests for a specific design if you have alterations to a template. Each bite of cake is like a small taste of heaven; with a layer of frosting on top followed by two layers of moist, flavorful cake with mousse in between, there is no better option to suit anyone’s dessert needs. They are also beautifully priced; one half-sheet of cake that technically feeds 20 people (but also can feed just me) is only $18. If that’s not a win I’m not sure what is.

3. Rotisserie Chicken

If your family is anything like mine and ,for some reason, has a turkey aversion, the Costco Rotisserie chickens will serve your every Thanksgiving and Christmas need. At a jaw dropping $5 per bird, there is simply nothing that can compare. The perfectly cooked meat is the perfect complement to any spread imaginable with saved time and money as only an added bonus. Only dubs here.

4. Pumpkin Spice Popcorn

Now you just can’t count this one out till you’ve tried it. With cinnamon dusted kettle corn doused in vanilla pumpkin icing, there is no better way to ring in the fall. This snack is truly addicting; I managed to finish a whole Costco sized bag in just three days before making another trip to replenish my stores. Excellence at its finest.

5. Bibigo Mini Wontons

Costco’s Bibigo mini wontons have been a staple in my family since the day they graced the shelves of Costo. The wontons are filled with chicken and cilantro. Though they may look small, don’t be deceived; they are shockingly filling. Whether tossed in with vegetables and soy sauce to make a stir fry or eating them just plain on their own, it makes for the perfect snack or entree. As an added bonus, they are incredibly healthy - literally no flaw for these babies.

6. The Pizza

Like everything else at Costco, this pizza is quite large. And not only that, it’s only $1.99 per slice and $9.99 for the whole 18 inch pizza. Loaded with cheese and toppings, each slice truly delivers on quality. It’s perfect for any occasion, whether it be for a party of many or just a party of one. There is simply no realm in which this Costco pizza does not satisfy.

7. 2 for 1 Muffins

Costco has an incredible deal where two packs of muffins, each containing six massive muffins, costs only $7. The bakery provides a variety of flavors, including blueberry, chocolate, pumpkin streusel, coffeecake, and cornbread. Best part is you can mix and match flavors - the seasonal pumpkin streusel is my absolute favorite. These muffins are perfect for breakfast, brunch, dessert, or a snack - you really cannot go wrong. All I know is that these absolutely belong in the bakery section of your home.

8. Late July Jalapeno Lime Chips

Looking for a crunch? Look no further. I have an addiction and it is these chips. Perfectly and uniformly seasoned, this snack serves as the ideal complement to any meal. Whether used as a dipping implement or crumbled on top of your Chipotle, the jalapeno lime flavor will do simply wondrous things for your taste buds.

9. Mon Château Faux fur Rug

This rug is like a spa experience for your feet. Though the rug itself is no larger than doormat sized, the softness of the fur makes up for the minimal area covered. Also aesthetically pleasing, this rug placates any fur enthusiast’s faux fur rug desires. The best part is that these rugs were only $15 on sale ($35 regular price). There could not be a better addition to any living space. No regrets here.

10. Costco Gingerbread Mansion

The gingerbread mansions at Costco are every Christmas lover’s dream. With a far greater surface area than a normal gingerbread house, there is much more merriment that arises from the purchase of this item. With over one pound of icing and plenty of candy decorations, there is no limit to the number of designs that could result from this mansion. Nothing but joy is contained in the walls of this mansion - consider yourself the architect of Christmas with this purchase.
